Investigations into the Uncanny

Extraordinary collaboration with Museum for Contemporary Art (S.M.A.K.):
The special collaboration between S.M.A.K. and the Willem II Factory can be called exceptional. The Willem II Factory is open to guest curators. Being able to show such relevant works of art from an internationally prominent museum is, according to curator Ivonne van der Velden, mainly due to guest curator Loek Grootjans and Lars Weller.
Their passionate energy and knowledge have resulted in 16 artists from the Netherlands and Belgium contributing to the exhibition that enter into a dialogue with works from the collection of S.M.A.K.
Especially in an unsettling way:
The exhibition is about the 'unheimliche', the uncomfortable, uncomfortable, ominous gut feeling. That feeling with current developments in world politics and global society. Polarization, populism, extremism and great climate change are themes that appeal to the imagination. Science does not stand still and boundaries between man and machine become blurred. Artists are able to imagine these twists like no other.
