Raum für Junge Kunst: Sammlung Reydan Weiss. "Ohne Etikett fühle ich mich freier..."

31 May 2018 - 2 December 2018

Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum, Braunschweig, DE

The "Room for Young Art" shows a selection of predominantly contemporary art from the Reydan Weiss collection. One focus of this presentation is on works that embody a synthesis of nature and human craftsmanship. Thus, some works are carried out using objects from the plant and animal world with great master craftsmanship. In other cases, phenomena from nature are virtuously imitated.
The works of the Reydan Weiss collection have in common that their variety and curiosity almost evoke the appearance of Kunstkammer objects. In this way, they correspond to the origins of the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum and its collections. Last but not least, contemporary still lifes and portraits on paintings and photos from the Reydan Weiss collection build a bridge to paintings from the 17th century.
This exhibition therefore pays attention to timeless themes, such as the wonderment of the world and its manifestations, or how life becomes and goes wrong. It allows an unusual, even a contemporary view of the collections of the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum.
Featuring works by Giampaolo Bertozzi & Stefano del Monte Casoni (Italy), Johan Creten (Belgium), Thomas Grünfeld (Germany) Linde Ivimey (Australia), Alastair Mackie, (England), Kate MccGwire (England), Hans Op de Beeck (Belgium ), Carolein Smit (Netherlands), Anj Smith (England), Terry Taylor (Australia) and others.
