In the Spotlight of the Night
26 October 2019 - 9 February 2020
Marta Herford Museum for Art, Architecture, Design, Herford, DE
In Greek mythology the goddess Nyx embodies the creative principle of the night. She gave birth to the day, brought order to the dark chaos of the “primeval night” while always remaining connected with the mysterious, irrational side of the darkness.
The electrification in the 19th century increasingly displaced the strict change from bright to dark. Night work, glaringly illuminated filling stations or the loud hustle and bustle in clubs and pubs are just some aspects of this development. The shady life in a night without boundaries is at the centre of this exhibition dedicated to the facets of a fascinating theme and taking place in two venues at the same time – KAI 10 | ARTHENA FOUNDATION in Düsseldorf and Marta Herford.
