24 October 2020 - 12 April 2021

Musée de Flandre, Cassel, FR

On October 23, 2010, after 13 years of closure and 2 years of work, the Musée de Flandre reopened with the ambition of promoting Flemish art. Each year, more than 50,000 visitors from France and Belgium discover this atypical museum which gives pride of place to the fine arts. In ten years, the museum has offered 18 exhibitions that shed light on an artist unfairly forgotten or a theme that has been little discussed. Three of them were awarded the “Exhibition of National Interest” label awarded by the Ministry of Culture: Flanders and the Sea in 2015, The Animal Odyssey in 2016, Gaspar de Crayer in 2018. In 2019, the he exhibition Fêtes et Fêtes au temps des Brueghels reached a record number of visitors of 53,000 visitors.

To celebrate its 10th anniversary, the museum is offering a new display of the permanent collection which highlights recent acquisitions and deposits. And it welcomes three new contemporary sculptures in the courtyard: Blossom Tree by Hans Op by Beeck, The Walking Egg by Koen Vanmechelem and Brazil by Panamarenko.
