‘Crow’ is a kinetic sculpture of a life-size, flying crow. Its flight, powered by a mechanical system, creates the illusion of forward motion as the animal perpetually flies on the spot. The crow rekindles the world of fables and old animated films in which animals represent humans. The work also refers to the age-old tradition of mechanically animated figures that often evoke a calm melancholy due to the repetitive, joyless nature of the their movement. At the same time, it is remarkable how lifelike and smooth the mechanically formed movements appear.
