In ‘Writer’s Island’ we see a house on stilts at the water’s edge. At the side is a jetty with a rowing boat tied up. The entire piece is monochrome grey.
This could be an ideal retreat for a writer, a place to concentrate on writing in solitude. The little house has a writing desk and the floor is strewn with books and papers.
This fictive place represents an idyllic setting, though the absence of colour also conveys a certain sombreness and desolation.
